bjp national executive meet in goa

  1. Results were declared today for the by-elections that were held for 4 parliamentary and 10 assembly seats across 6 states of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, West Bengal, Tripura, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and one union territory, Puducherry.
  2. Results were eagerly awaited as it was meant to be a barometer of people’s response to demonetization.
  3. The results, however small, must have given much needed relief to the government as all the contested seats in BJP ruled Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh, were retained by it.
  4. It shows that people despite hardships continue to support PM Modi. It also seems that PM’s emotional appeal has worked!
  5. In other states like WestBengal, Mamata Banerjee retained her 3 seats and so has Jayalalitha in Tamilnadu, retained all her 3 seats.
  6. Congress won its Puducherry seat but lost in Tripura to ruling CPM.
  7. Its perhaps worry time for others in the opposition. PM popularity might have suffered but not his support base.
  8. Had BJP lost any of its seats, Mamata, Kejriwal, Mayawati and company would have held the whole country to ransom demanding rollback of the demonetization decision, bandhs etc adding to the misery of the miserables!
  9. However there is a need of some reconsideration for certain sections specially farmers to buy seeds and other farming ingredients as Rabi season is on.
  10. It is believed that lack of cash for buying seeds may affect the food grain production, specially Wheat. Let’s not affect the Green while stopping the Black!
