  1. The headlines of most of the Newspapers read about the unfortunate accident of Indore – Patna Express in which 142 people lost their lives and more than 200 got injured.
  2. There are not sufficient words to express the pain and anguish on this tragedy.
  3. However this is not the isolated accident where innocents lost their lives due to systemic failure which is often ignored and not addressed.
  4. 20 March 2015 Dehradun Varanasi Janta Express derailed in Rae Bareli leaving 58 dead, 150 people injured.
  5. On 25 May 2015 Muri Express derailed in Uttar Pradesh leaving 4 people dead and more than 50 injured.
  6. And On 28 May 2010, Gyaneshwari Express train derailed in West Bengal and at least 170 people lost their lives.
  7. Not only train accidents but other road traffic led accidents together kill millions of Indians every year.
  8. A National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) report revealed that every year, more than 145,000 traffic collision related deaths occur in India.
  9. Precisely in 2015, 146,133 people were killed in road accidents in India which is like 400 people were killed in road accidents every day in 2015.
  10. It means the 20 November 2016 like train accident occurred daily in 2015!
  11. In the past one decade, over 1.3 million people have been killed in road accidents but there is still no comprehensive road safety legislation in the country.
  12. Where is the focus?
  13. The total fatalities due to terrorism and naxalism in the year 2015 and 2016 (upto November 13) stand at 362.
  14. Most of the efforts go to reduce terrorism because this relatively small killer creates a bigger sound and the the bigger killers like accidents are silent and therefore they are neglected year by year.
  15. All deaths are tragic but since the efforts are disproportionate towards the problems, solution is not found despite the intensity of the problem.
  16. The worst fear is yet to come as winter is about to fall and dense fogs would add to the woes. Hey Prabhu, take care of your People.
